All applicants must fulfill certain pre-requisites, undergo a training course by the Singapore Taxi Academy (STA) and pass a written test before they qualify to be taxi drivers. All taxi drivers are required to pay daily rental fares to their respective taxi companies for the leasing of taxis. These fares depend on the different companies and are also on the age of the taxi and its engine capacity. The current taxi rental rate ranges from S$75 to S$105 daily. Taxi drivers who currently own or operate Yellow Top Taxis are required by LTA to replace their taxis after they have reached their 8-year life span. If you wish to replace your taxi, you may download the Yellow Top Taxi Replacement form and mail it to the Vehicle Transit Licensing (VTL) office upon completion. Copies of the form are also available at the VTL office. The operating hours for the Lost & Found Unit in the LTA Vehicle & Transit Licensing Group at 10 Sin Ming Drive will be adjusted with effect from 1 Aug 2007 to :Mondays - Fridays : 8.00 am to 4.30 pmWe are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.During the period when the office of the Lost & Found Unit is closed, bus / taxi driver may deposit the properties found in his vehicle at any police station. Taxi drivers are now able to benefit from more training and personal development opportunities. Formed in July 2003, the Singapore Taxi Academy (STA) is training cab drivers to be more professional in their services. The Academy has also been appointed by LTA to conduct training and assessment for the Taxi Driver Vocational License (TDVL) and the TDVL Refresher Training Course. The STA was officially launched on 11 June 2004.One of the more unique courses offered by STA has seen cabbies being groomed to become Singapore's ambassadors. Under the taxi tourist guide license course, these drivers will undergo training and a series of tests before being certified. Chauffeured around town by these taxi drivers cum licensed professional guides, tourists will be able to enjoy the local sights and sounds at their own pace. With the development of Jurong Industrial Estate, the Jurong Port was opened in 1965. Further expansion followed in 1971 when the PSA converted the British Naval Base Store Basin into the Sembawang Wharves. Singapore became the first port in South-East Asia to accommodate a third-generation container vessel with the opening of a container berth at Tanjong Pagar on 23 June 1972. Pasir Panjang Wharves was set up in 1974.At that time, the PSA operated five maritime gateways: Keppel Wharves, Jurong Port, Sembawang Wharves, Tanjong Pagar Container Terminal and Pasir Panjang Wharves. There were about 12 km of wharves and more than 1.5 million sq m of warehouses. The PSA also contributed to Singapore's tourism efforts when it set up the World Trade Centre In 1972. In addition, the ferry terminal helped to boost Sentosa as a tourist attraction. The opening of the Maritime Museum by the PSA at Sentosa in 1975 gave visitors a glimpse of the port's history.By the 1980s, the sheer volume of container traffic at Tanjong Pagar Container Terminal and the overall increase in cargo handling was stretching the capacity of its staff. Added to this was the pressure of running a global port. As a result, the PSA decided to go high-tech using automated and computerized machinery for the port operations. The port's efficiency was recognized at the 1988 and 1989 Asian Freight Industry Awards. The PSA won three prestigious awards for the two years: Best Seaport in Asia, Best Warehouse Operator and Best Seaport Terminal Operator. The PSA celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 1989. In that year, the World Trade Centre hosted 64 exhibitions. 29 events and 390 conferences and meetings that attracted nearly 5 million visitors. The PSA opened the Singapore Cruise Centre in December 1991 and commissioned its newest container terminal, the $1.14 billion Brani Terminal.Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)Former Communications Minister Mah Bow Tan introduced a Bill in Parliament on 5 December 1995 to set up a new statutory board called the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The Bill was passed on 18 January 1996. Under this MPA Bill, the MPA would take over the functions of the Marine Department in the Ministry of Communications, the National Maritime Board and the regulatory departments of the Port of Singapore Authority. The formation of MPA was vital to Singapore to maintain its position as a hub port and major international maritime centre. The PSA would be corporatised and the MPA would regulate it.The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was formed on 2 February 1996. Among the many functions of the MPA would be to promote the use and development of the port, control vessel movements and ensure navigational safety and regulate marine services and facilities.PSA CorporationA Bill was passed in Parliament on 25 August 1997 to corporatise the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA). This was necessary to ensure the port remain responsive to the developments of the shipping industry and the demands of a marketplace. It would better able to seize new business opportunities and respond more effectively to future challenges. The PSA was corporatised on 1 October 1997. The new PSA Corporation would retain its core business of operating container terminals and expand into investing, developing and operating international port terminals. It would also engage in related harbour-front developments, warehousing and logistics. The PSA Corporation would continue to manage the World Trade Centre, the existing cruise center and ferry terminals, and the Singapore Expo in Changi. The first LRT line was opened in 1999 and the system has since expanded to three lines, each serving a public housing estate. The system is closer to an automated people mover system such as those found in many airports around the world than a traditional light rail system. All the lines are fully automated and elevated, and run on viaducts in order to save scarce land space in Singapore. A similar (though free-of-charge) system can be found in Miami, Florida in the United States; see Metromover (Miami-Dade Transit). Note that while both the old and the new Singapore Changi Airport Skytrain people mover is similar to the LRT, they are not part of the LRT system. In Singapore, we have an association, stadiums, many sports fields and car parks transformed from our old airport grounds. . We're talking about The Kallang Airport. Officially opened on 12 June 1937, the Kallang Airport was Singapore's first civil airport and was then hailed as the "finest airport in the British Empire". After it was closed in the late 1940's, the old airport control building was turned into The People's Association of Singapore HQ in the 1950s. Surrounding land and the runways were also redeveloped. Apart from the building of the National Stadium on part of the airport grounds in 1973, legacy redevelopment from the Kallang Airport grounds include the construction of 3 to 7-storey flats and the Old Kallang Airport Hawkers' Centre/Emporium building along Old Airport Road. The Hawker Centre still exists today, but most of the olds flats have already been earmarked for demolition. Old Airport Road is on the line of the runway of the old airport. Interestingly, the runway was extended across Mountbatten Road in the 1950s and traffic lights had to be installed to stop the traffic when planes were landing. These days, you'll no longer be able to see planes taking off along the old runway. Instead, Stadium Boulevard and Stadium Road has become a popular ground for "L"-plate drivers practising their driving skills along the long stretch of straight road, which was formerly part of the airport runway. Singapore's first civil airport saw the likes of Chinese President Chou En-lai, famous Chinese immigrant and philanthropist, Tan Kah Kee and Sir John Nicoll, Governor of Singapore in the 50s, passing through its passenger terminals. The airport was in operation till it was replaced in 1955 by the Paya Lebar Airport. Subsequently, as civil aviation in Singapore progressed, the government realized that a much larger and better airport had to be built to meet the aviation demands of the eighties and beyond. Therefore, in 1970, President Lee Kuan Yew made the momentous announcement to build Singapore's third and latest airport on reclaimed land in Changi. The Changi International Airport opened for operation on 1 July 1981 and was officially opened on 29 December. The rest, as they say, is history. ![]() by Hoe Yeen Nie, Channel NewsAsia Posted: 19 April 2008 1939 hrs Singapore's rice supplies are safe even as global rice exporters such as Thailand impose export restrictions. This assurance came from Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, S Iswaran who added that Thailand has promised it will maintain its rice exports this year. ![]() Speaking on the sidelines of a community event, Mr Iswaran stressed that the main issue affecting Singaporeans is that of price. But the government is monitoring the rice markets closely. He said: "Quantity as such, is not a major issue for Singapore in particular, because our rice needs are very small compared to the global market. And even if you compare with what Thailand exports, our requirements from Thailand are only one or two per cent of what Thailand's total exports are." Mr Iswaran also said his Ministry will be addressing the issue of rising food prices when Parliament sits on 21 April. -CNA/vm 6 Violet: Read the above news article published yesterday on CNA's website and make some comments with regards to the situation in the world when rice exporting countries are facing a decline in harvest therefore they've started to restrict exports. This then causes us to face an increase in the price of rice. The Great Escape
Paper bags and plastic hearts
All our belongings in shopping carts
It's goodbye
But we got one more night
Let's get drunk and drive around
And make peace with an empty town
We can make it right
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
We won't hear a word they say
They don't know us anyway
Watch it burn
Let it die
Cause we are finally free tonight
Tonight will change our lives
It's so good to be by your side
But we'll cry
We won't give up the fight
We'll scream loud at the top of our lungs
And they'll think it's just cause were young
And we'll feel so alive
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
We won't hear a word they say
They don't know us anyway
Watch it burn
Let it die
Cause we are finally free tonight
All of the wasted time
Hours that were left behind
Answers that we'll never find
They don't mean a thing tonight
Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
We won't hear a word they say
They don't know us anyway
Throw it awayForget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
We won't hear a word they say
They don't know us anyway
We've no time for goodbyes .
found the lyrics quite meaningful for teens like us .
we've to forget the past and live on .
if we don't , we'll forever be stuck in our own troubles .
and to express our feelings and not to keep them to ourselves , it'll only make us feel worse .
the lyrics , except for the getting drunk part of course , DOES mean a lot .
go ahead and think about it.
anyway , the song's nice too :P Annessa

okay first of all , if any of you would like to know who the " Don't like An .. " is ,
it's Syarifuddin .

okie , jst wanna quote ,
" What doesn't kill you , makes you stronger . "
so don't give up , learn from your mistakes and pick yourself up .
forget about the ugly past , it's all happened .
nothing you can do about it , so face up to the scary reality [ even if it's really scary ]
i've been through many things , and i've learned from some :]
like tickling works better on mustaqim than hitting him xP

Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter)
that is available on the internet. It is frequently updated and intended
for general public reading. Blogs generally represent the personality of
the author or the Web site.
The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who
keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software
that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain
the blog.
